Opening the new season at the Kitchen restaurant is Paolo Lopriore, star of the Italian culinary firmament and disciple of the great Chef Gualtiero Marchesi.

The return of one of the most celebrated chefs in Italy and, indeed, worldwide is all about the original. Born in Como in 1973, Lopriore has pursued his remarkable career far from his homeland, and now he returns to his roots.

Extrovert and innovative, Paolo Lopriore began working with Gualtiero Marchesi, becoming his favourite pupil. He moved to Milan and Florence, at the Pinchiorri wine bar, before re-uniting with his mentor at the Albereta in Erbusco, near Brescia. New experiences drew him abroad, to France, at LeDoyen and Troisgros with Michel Porthos, and finally to the Bagatelle in Oslo with Eyvind Hellstrøm. For over a decade from 2002, Lopriore was at the Canto restaurant at the Certosa di Maggiano hotel, Siena, where his original creations aroused great excitement, as his star rose ever higher on the international scene.

This exceptional journey through gourmet culture has now brought Paolo Lopriore back to Como, to lead the team at the Kitchen restaurant and to renew his acquaintance with this richly evocative land, uniting culinary innovation and creativity with the local tradition and landscape.

Passion, innovation, a sensitivity for tradition and the seasons underlie Lopriore’s cuisine. He dedicates himself to inventiveness, experimentation, teasing out the essence of the ingredients to suffuse their untrammelled freshness into recipes that are a festival of genuine, decisive flavours.
